Spawned from the turmoil of a summer night absinthe binge, the Mud Queens of Chicago was meant to be the answer to Chicago's lack of dirty fun. Initially, the idea was to just have a big party in the backyard with a kiddie pool and mud. But - as I soon realized - mud wrestling deserves more than a kiddie pool. This city needed an event. An event to break the monotony. An event that smacks all the pretentious "hipness" across the face and brings back the true nature of fun: DIRT. This is not the stoic, introspective form of Chicago culture. This is the mud-slinging, hootin' and hollerin' kind of culture that is the Mud Queens of Chicago. Realizing some good ole' rock and roll was a necessity, we enlisted the help of The Billy Carter Band. Being the good Southern boys that they are, they provided insight on the pros of mud vs. cole slaw and other potentially disastrous decisions. The Queens band has morphed over the years, but our rock and roll values remain. The Mud Queens conquer a new venue with each show - just to keep everyone on their toes. Don't thing you can do mud wrestling in your living room? Just wait. Our humble beginnings in a friend's loft made us defy obstacles just as the new spaces will. In the true nature of dirt and violence, the Mud Queens donate a portion of our proceeds to the Young Women's Empowerment Project. Although we really don't need a legitimate reason to get dirty, it makes us feel good. As long as there is mud, we'll keep slinging and swinging.
